Ontario's honest rent-to-own directory

Every home listed here carries its full terms in the open: the price, the option fee, the monthly credit, the future price and what happens to your money if you do not buy. If a city has no homes today, the page says so plainly and the waitlist is the page.

I have a home or terms to offer

Owners and operators can list a home on terms when they publish the full terms and reconfirm them on a schedule. Demand here is real: the waitlist shows you where it is.

The listing standard, in short

A home earns a place on this directory by meeting a published standard, not by paying for one. The full standard is one tap away and it applies to us first.

  • Full terms on every card. Price, option fee, monthly payment, monthly credit, term, future price or formula and refund treatment. No fields, no listing.
  • Confirmed or gone. Every listing carries a listed date and a last-confirmed date. Stop reconfirming and the listing expires off the shelf.
  • No paywall for seekers. Addresses, prices and contact routes are never sold back to the people searching.
  • We will never ask you for a deposit to view a home. If anyone using this site's name does, it is not us. Report it.

Four Durham cities at launch

Each city page carries dated local numbers with their sources, the homes confirmed for that city and its waitlist. Notice that the rent figures use different bases city to city, because the sources do. Every page labels its own basis rather than pretending the four are one series.

Own a home you would sell on terms?

Demand on this directory is counted city by city on the waitlist, so you can see where buyers are building toward ownership before you commit to anything. Owners list free when they publish the full terms and reconfirm them on schedule.

Self-storage, independents first

The directory's second shelf profiles the independent and small regional storage operators of Durham and the east GTA, the facilities the chain directories leave out. Every profile is built from public sources with its checked date on the card. Prices appear only when the operator confirms them.

A lease plus an option: what the Residential Tenancies Act covers, what it does not and where the option agreement stands on its own.

Is rent-to-own a scam?

The honest answer is that some of it is. The red flags that separate a legitimate programme from a deposit harvest, in one checklist.

Where your money goes

The three ways the final purchase price gets set, with worked examples that show their assumptions instead of hiding them.

Will you qualify at the end?

The mortgage stress test, the GDS and TDS ratios and the credit picture a lender will actually look at when your term ends.

FHSA saving versus rent-to-own

Renting while you save inside a First Home Savings Account, set beside a rent-to-own term over the same three years. The honest comparison.

Straight answers

What is rent-to-own?

Rent-to-own is two agreements signed together: a lease you live under now and an option that gives you the right to buy the home at a set point, usually in two to four years. Part of each monthly payment is credited toward your purchase. The plain Ontario explanation is in our Learn hub.

Does joining the waitlist cost anything?

No. The waitlist is free and it stays free. We will never charge you to see an address, a price or a phone number and we will never ask for a deposit to view a home.

Why are some city shelves empty?

Because a home appears here only when its owner has agreed to publish the full terms and it leaves the shelf when the owner stops reconfirming it. An honest empty shelf plus a waitlist tells you the truth about supply and it tells owners exactly where the demand is.

Is Jellyfish Real Estate a real estate brokerage?

No. Jellyfish Real Estate is a directory and marketing service. We are not a brokerage, we do not trade in real estate and we do not hold deposits. Any purchase is a private agreement between you and the owner and we encourage you to have your own lawyer review it before you sign. Everything published here is general information about how these markets work. It is not real estate, financial, legal or mortgage advice for your situation.
